Mezzo-Soprano Kate Mathews is a varied and active performer, accomplished in opera, concert, jazz, Broadway, and ensemble singing. Miss Mathews’ operatic credits include Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Jo in Mark Adamo’s Little Women, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Cornelia in Handel’s Giulio Cesare. Her musical theatre credits include Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun and Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods. Upcoming productions include the role of Suor Zelatrice in Act Up!'s production of Suor Angelica, the mezzo-soprano role in The Firebringers by contemporary composer Chappell Kingsland, as well as Enrique Granados’ Goyescas with Boulder Opera Company. Ms. Mathews is also a frequent performer on the concert stage and is especially interested in the promotion and preservation of American Art Song.

Ms. Mathews received an Honorary Mention from the Denver Lyric Opera Guild’s Competition for Colorado Singers and has placed second in both the Art Song and Aria divisions at the Bay Area National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) annual competition. Ms. Mathews has been awarded grants from the Anna Sosenko Assist Fund and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Professional Development Fund.

Ms. Mathews is the Artistic Director of Arias@Avo’s, a monthly performance featuring top regional talent in a casual family-friendly pub setting sponsored by the Fort Collins Opera Guild. She is also the program coordinator for the Opera Fort Collins Guild’s annual Songs in Summer and she runs the Mathews Music Studio where she teaches piano and voice lessons.

Originally from Loveland, Colorado, Ms. Mathews has a Master of Music and a Post Graduate in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has a Bachelor of Music from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico.
